Thank you for visiting my blog.
You are probably wondering a few things:
Who am I?
What is National American Miss (NAM)?
What is a "Cover Girl" and what does she do?
I am an honor roll middle school student. I have been dancing since I was four and for the past four years I have been dancing competitively with the Moving Company Dance Studio. In my free time I like to make up dances, make hair bows, and play dress-up with my little sisters.
National American Miss Pageants are "dedicated to celebrating America's greatness ... and for 'Today's Girl' and 'Tomorrow's Leaders.' The pageant program is based on inner beauty, as well as poise, [and] presentation ... Emphasis is placed on the importance of gaining self-confidence, learning new skills, learning good attitudes about competition, and setting and achieving personal goals. The pageant seeks to recognize the accomplishments of each girl while encouraging her to set goals for the future!" (National American Miss Cover Girl Press Release)
I heard about National American Miss (NAM) through the mail. A letter came, and despite my mother's attempts to throw away all pageant invitations in the past, this letter slipped by her and into my hands. I was SO EXCITED that I began dancing up and down in the kitchen. I had never competed in a pageant before, and my parents' were involved minimally. I used my own money to register and did two preliminary interviews before I was invited to go onto the State Finalist Pageant.
At Michigan's State Finalist Pageant, I was crowned Michigan's Pre-Teen Cover Girl. A Cover Girl in National American Miss has nothing to do with makeup (actually NAM does not want their contestants to be wearing makeup). Everyone has the same opportunity to be crowned the Cover Girl, and it is earned through promoting and spreading the word about National American Miss and documenting it through the form of Ads and words of encouragement in the pageant program.
The title of "Cover Girl" is what you make of it. I created a bucket list of things I wish to accomplish as Michigan's Pre-Teen Cover Girl:
1) Create a blog documenting what I am doing as Cover Girl *check* :)
2) Earn enough money to compete at Nationals
3) Make friends in my NAMily from other states
4) Meet Michigan's Governor Snyder
5) Meet Political Women of influence
6) Participate in 3 parades
7) Complete 200 hours of volunteer work
8) Create a charitable event
9) Win the National Title as: National American Cover Miss
10) Make this year (as Cover Girl) a life changing experience
